The flexolator is the unsung hero of our
organic cotton and pure grow wool mattresses. It is located right on
top of the innerspring and keeps the cotton fabric and the cotton batting from falling
into the innerspring. If your padding falls into your innerspring, so does the comfort
level and longevity of the mattress. The flexolator is made up of wires that run across
the mattress from side to side every 5/8 of an inch. It is held together by virgin paper
rolled into cords. These cords are spaced about nine inches apart, and runs the length of
the mattress. The wires are then inserted into the paper and together they form the
flexolator.
At last check, these mattresses are the only mattresses that are using the 5/8
inch spacing in the flexolator. The industry standard for the flexolator is one
inch spacing, this spacing saves other mattress companies about 40% on the flexolator
cost. Some companies use a plastic screen in place of the wire flexolator, which does
less, and costs less. In our 5/8 inch spaced flexolator, you can see that we are using
more wire. By using more wire, there is more support for the other components
inside your mattress.
We spend a little more money on our flexolator than other companies, but in the
long run, it saves the customer money.
